A peep behind the scenes
Selling overseas property is not as glamorous as many people think it might be. I can’t count the number of times clients on inspection trips have said to me “I could do your job” not realising that they only see the best bits of the job when we are wining and dining in a lovely restaurant or showing them the sights. They have no idea about how much hard work is carried out behind the scenes.
My introduction into the world of overseas property came about when I travelled to Florida USA to purchase a holiday home and this gave me the first taste of how an inspection trip to buy an overseas property works. Having lived in Africa for ten years and America for two years, it was not such a difficult experience for me as I was used to buying and selling the homes we lived in. However, for many people it can be quite a daunting task having to deal with, in some cases a foreign language and different laws.
Over the years I have met some of the most interesting people it is possible to meet, amongst them celebrities, professional people, people of all nationalities and from all walks of life and have taken great pleasure in assisting them to purchase either a holiday home or property to reside in in various parts of the world including the islands of the Caribbean and Florida, Spain and France to name a few. I have travelled extensively and attended overseas property exhibitions as far afield as South Africa. It is hard work but pleasurable and extremely rewarding and I have many stories to tell about funny happenings on inspection trips and also tips on safe buying and other items of news.
Watch this space and hope to hear news from those of you who are interested in the world of overseas property.
